(3927) Pelton wheel, Pelton water wheel, Tangential turbine
A type of impulse turbine comprising a set of double cup-shaped buckets fitted on to the rim of a disc attached to a shaft, and operated by impact of a jet of water on the buckets from a nozzle. The flow of jet or jets being tangential to the wheel, is also termed a `tangential turbine`.
